Thumbs up!"Crisp and clean, with a fresh peppermint taste blended with sweet chocolate... slightly acidic in the aftertaste, but otherwise quite good."

necessiteas-mint-chocolate.jpgThe NecessiTEAS Belgian Mint is a harmonious blend of black tea, chocolate flavoring, and peppermint leaves. Interestingly, I searched the NecessiTEAS website and was unable to find a product called "Belgian Mint" tea, so perhaps the tea I sampled is no longer offered. More likely, however, the tea is now sold under the name "chocolate mint truffle", which is described on their website as: "a lovely after dinner tea, our popular Chocolate Mint is a black tea with chocolate flavoring and peppermint leaves". This tea has a really pleasing aroma that is both minty and candy-like. Based on the dry leaves, it appears to be almost a 50-50 balance of mint leaves to black tea leaves. The mint is the more noticeable scent and flavor here, but there are definitely nice, sweet chocolate-based undertones present. The tea brews to a much lighter color than is typical of plain black teas, and it's just about what color you might expect if you blended one part brewed black tea with one part brewed peppermint tea. The taste is crisp and clean, and the peppermint really shines throughout from beginning to end. The chocolate is more subdued than the mint, but lends a needed sweetness to round off the tea. My main issue with this tea was that the more I drank it, the more I noticed an unexplainable tangy/acidic aftertaste. This aftertase seemed out of place for this tea, as I can best compare it to what I have experienced drinking teas flavored with tart fruits, such as blueberries. I added a little bit of sugar to try to tone down the unpleasant tanginess, but the sugar did not help, and just resulted in over-sweetening a tea that was sweet enough on its own. Overall though, I did enjoy this tea, because the NeccessiTEAS' blend of mint and chocolate is a winning combination. I would recommend it to others, particularly those who enjoy peppermint teas or those who have a big sweet-tooth like me. I am not sure if I would purchase it myself, but I would certainly say yes if someone offered me another cup.
