specialteas-green-mate-fies.jpgSpecialTeas website describes this tea in the following: "The Mate Fiesta is refreshing blend of Yerba Mate, lemon grass and natural fruit flavoring. A smooth, fruity and naturally stimulating beverage." Their recommendation for brewing is to "Use 1 level tsp. per 6 oz. cup; heat fresh water until first signs of steam (150-160º F); let steep for 7-10 min." I have tried several Yerba Mates and usually enjoy them immensely, so I was looking forward to trying this one. From my previous experiences, I know that I usually prefer a longer brewing time with these blends, so I went for the 10 minutes right off.

While the dry leaves themselves are unremarkable to look at, I was able to distinguish the mate from the lemongrass. The aroma is a bit difficult to describe, but has a sweetness to it. The tea itself has much the same aroma once brewed. The taste is even better than the aroma. It is surprisingly sweet and has a taste and feel to it that is very reminiscent of a tea that has had honey added to it. I detected the slightest hint of the lemongrass, but not knowing what the "natural fruit flavoring" was, I was unable to decipher anything strong enough to lead me to know for sure what that fruit or fruits might be. Whatever the flavorings are, they are blended extremely well making for a delightful experience. I tried this tea both hot and cold and it was equally pleasant both ways. I really enjoy Yerba Mate in the morning as it usually has the power to get me up and going without the jitteriness that caffeinated beverages can sometimes cause. This is one that I will be purchasing more of.
