kalaharirubygrapefruit.jpgNow is probably as good a time as any to come clean about the fact that I am a bit of a tea snob. I drink very few bagged teas, and I find it very difficult to appreciate anything that could be considered lower quality.

So when I first opened Kalahari's Grapefruit White to find the sort of teabag you can buy in any grocery store filled with small, broken leaves, I was a bit disappointed. It didn't smell like anything special, but at $5 for 20 bags made with organic ingredients, it is reasonably priced and earth friendly.

The flavour just did not measure up for me. It tasted like an average cheap white tea with little citrus scent or flavour. The aftertaste had a much more recognizable citrus flavour, but it also had a vague sense of staleness to it. Maybe I am being a bit harsh and this tea could be appreciate more by someone less picky, but as for me, I will probably be giving the other bag to my much less finicky husband.

I was a little kinder to this one. It at least had the taste of Bai Mu Dan going for it. The grapefruit, however, couldn’t detect it…which is odd considering how STRONG grapefruit is.

    I think I tasted a little “ruby”…whatever that is.
