Thumbs up!"This tea impressed me for 2 reasons: first, even though I used VERY cold water, the powder dissolved almost instantly and with little effort, and second, the taste was so pure and crisp, it was hard to believe this came from powdered tea leaves and not from a more laborious leaf-steeping infusion process."

rishiteapowder.jpgIn the wake of the increasing popularity of on-the-go water-enhancing powders such as Crystal Light, Rishi offers a much more natural (and far tastier!) alternative: powdered tea in individual on-the-go packets. What's important to understand here is that the contents of the Rishi powdered tea packets are just that: pure powdered tea. For example, the GenMai sample is described as being made with "100% pure tealeaves and roasted rice that are cold milled into a fine powder. No added colorants, synthetic sweeteners, sugars, or flavors". Compare this to the ingredients in your typical Crystal Light drink, which contains preservatives, food colorings, artificial sweeteners and all sorts of other unmentionables, and it becomes abundantly clear that Rishi excels in offering a far healthier on-the-go beverage option. The sample package I was given contained one packet each of GenMai, Green Oolong, and Sencha powdered teas. I began my sampling with the GenMai, as it had been a while since I had indulged in this type of tea. The directions advise pouring the powder into a bottled water and shaking vigorously. Being at my office and without a water bottle, I had to improvise with a mug. The powdered tea is very fine, but as soon as I emptied the packet into my mug, my office was overtaken by the sweet and nutty aroma of toasted rice. I added iced water to the mug, stirred a bit, and voila! :an instant (and very green) cup of iced cold GenMai Cha. This tea impressed me for 2 reasons: first, even though I used VERY cold water, the powder dissolved almost instantly and with little effort, and second, the taste was so pure and crisp, it was hard to believe this came from powdered tea leaves and not from a more laborious leaf-steeping infusion process. Now, I don't consider myself the resident expert on GenMai, but I have sampled a few out there, and I can honestly say that this powdered version tastes better than any other variety of GenMai I have ever had...hands down! The rice flavor is rich and nutty, and I am almost embarrassed to admit that I just about inhaled my whole cup in record timing. Rishi Tea once again delivers with the highest quality tea products. I later proceeded with the other 2 sample packets, each with equally rewarding results. In a nutshell, I just couldn't believe how delicious these powdered teas were; in fact, as long as the tea is well-mixed so that all of the powder dissolves, I would bet that most folks would be unable to differentiate this tea from the more traditionally prepared tea. I do plan to purchase some of these for myself, and will recommend these to anyone, particularly those who currently use alternate powdered substances to flavor their bottled water. Although these packets are fairly expensive ($8 to $9 for a box of 12 packets), there is something to be said about top-quality tea and getting what you pay for. Sure, other beverage powders are cheaper, but when you compare the quality and the nutritional benefits of each option, Rishi's powdered tea packets are well worth the extra cost.
