redleafteaafricansummer.jpgAfrican Summer is an herbal blend offered by Red Leaf tea. A colorful blend of reds, greens, oranges, yellows and browns, it has an herbally enticing ingredient list of honeybush, lemongrass, lemon myrtle, rose hips, eucalyptus, hibiscus, safflower and marigolds. The lemongrass is prominent in the blend, visually, scent and taste wise.

I had a relatively small sample of this tea, and I may have brewed it too weakly (added too much water). I didn't find it to be a very strong cup of tea. Herbal teas can be tricky, they don't tend to bear second infusions, and possibly I just added too much water to my sample. The lemongrass was the predominant flavor, for certain, which was not surprising judging from the smell of the leaf, both dry and steeping. I found it to be a little mild for my tastes. When it comes to an herbal infusion, I like lots of flavor. Especially in an herbal blend, it's really nice to be able to taste at least a couple of the main ingredients. While this cup was tasty and fairly naturally sweet, it didn't have a lot of body to it, was mostly lemongrass in its tastes and nothing about it really jumped out to claim my taste attention.

While nothing special, this was a nice cup of tea. It was a summery sort of brew, pretty to look at and good smelling. Nothing offensive or crazy about it, but not super memorable, either.

I have found this tea to be VERY good. Every time I drink it, my mind gets transported to country side where I was taking long walks during summer. The taste and aroma makes it a perfect tea for winter time when you need a little bit of summer in your life to cheer you up. It works for me.
