Thumbs up!"The most unique characteristic of this tea, however, is the smooth and sweet aftertaste left in the back of your mouth and throat after swallowing. It's entirely unexpected, but offers a wonderful contrast to the other flavors of the tea."

redleafteamutea.jpgAfter perusing Red Leaf's website, I was happy to find that, alongside the usual green, white, black, oolong, and herbal teas they offer quite a few unique teas. Mu Tea #16 is one of them, consisting of 16 Japanese plants and wild herbs, such as orange peel, hoelen, enicus, atractylis, peony root, cinnamon, parsley root, cypress, ginger root, licorice, peach kernels, rehmannia, cloves, ginseng, coptis and moutan.

Not your average herbal tea, that's for sure.

It looks the part, too. Overall, a light tan color, it includes larger bits of plants mixed with much smaller bits that almost look like a powder. My first thought was, "Looks like something off the spice rack." Smells that way, too. It reminds me specifically of curry powder, savory and spicy.

The flavor, at first, is underwhelming. It's like it's trying to taste like how it smells, but it lacks the rich and savory flavor that makes the smell distinctive. However, it retains a mild spiciness, and as it moves through your mouth and down your throat, it really begins to distinguish itself. The aftertaste, for one, reflects the scent much more accurately. The most unique characteristic of this tea, however, is the smooth and sweet aftertaste left in the back of your mouth and throat after swallowing. It's entirely unexpected, but offers a wonderful contrast to the other flavors of the tea.

Bottom Line: A unique and exotic herbal tea, absolutely a must-try for anyone who likes to spice things up with something a little bit different now and then.
