mightyleafmandarinrose.jpg"Mandarin Rose black tea boasts a garden of aromatic, candy-pink petals and rich black China tea leaves that result in a delicate wine essence with hints of chocolate and rose. This exotic Mighty Leaf signature blend offers a fragrant and visually memorable experience." --- Mighty Leaf website.

Mighty Leaf lists the ingredients on this blend as black tea, longan fruit, and rose petals. Since I am totally unfamiliar with longan fruit,. I did a google search and discovered it is cousin to the litchi fruit--though longan are usually considered to be inferior. I had kinda been presuming that based upon the name of the blend that this might have an orange/citrusy note to it but it appears that is not the case. I'm guessing the region of China where the black tea originated denotes the use of Mandarin in the name? The dry leaves have a very rose perfume aroma with an undertone that I originally thought was vanilla and I now am speculating is chocolate from reading Mighty Leaf's description.

I admittedly am not the world's biggest fan of floral teas because often they are so in your face. I was a little scared that this was gonna be one of those blends because the aroma of the dry leaves was pretty strong. The wet leaves also gave off a pretty perfumey aroma, but the taste coming out of my cup is actually pretty good. The rose is there, but not all in your face. Rose is the predominant taste, but this does also have a pleasant dessert-like undertone to it that I presume is a black tea with chocolate notes. Further, and probably most exciting, this does not appear to have the same inferior black tea base that seems to accompany most of Mighty Leaf's flavored black tea blends!

Overall, this gets a resounding thumbs up from me. One of the best Mighty Leaf blends to cross my cup to date, and really any rose tea that can make me want another cup is a winner. This is really nicely done as it doesn't cross the line into aggressive rose tea at Grandma's house. If you are looking for a really balanced and tasty rose black tea then I would suggest this one to you.
