Thumbs up!"This is not a tea I would want to drink often, but it was a welcome change from much of the tea I have been drinking lately. "

mightyeafacaiblack.jpgIn 1996 the Mighty Leaf Tea company was founded in San Francisco by the husband-and-wife team Jill Portman and Gary Shinner. Their Acai (pronounced AH-SIGH-EE) Black combines the health properties of products from two worlds - Chinese black tea leaves and açai berries from the Amazon rainforest. These berries are rich in omega fats and antioxidants. The blend also contains: hibiscus, sweet blackberry leaves, beet root, red currants, natural flavors, acai powder.

The tea has a fragrance that is strong and sweet with the scent of pomegranates. I steeped one teaspoon of tea in six ounces of water for five minutes. When brewed the tea smells of spinach and broccoli with a lemony, but bitter taste. In baking terms, it's as though the lemon zest contained too much of the pith.

The addition of cream creates the smell of a strawberry milkshake. The finish is still somewhat sour and bitter and it lasts for a considerably long time.

This is not a tea I would want to drink often, but it was a welcome change from much of the tea I have been drinking lately. It's actually a bit more like a tisane than tea. This is defiantly a clever blend and rather interesting drink.
