1111111111.jpgThe title of this tea is simultaneously arousing and intimidating.  The powers of boiling lemongrass are not unfamiliar to me.  For novices to the field of culinary exotica, lemongrass can be boiled alongside basic vegetables to impart a lemon flavor that is sometimes difficult to reproduce even by squeezing fresh lemons.  It is a unique variant on the lemon base, and while that is the baseline for the interest in this tea, the standard ratio of grass to water in addition to the thick lemon-scented fumes exhuming from the dry leaves left me concerned that it would overwhelm the tea and result in a strange lemonade.

Fortunately, that is far from the case, as the scent dwindles to a reasonable medium somewhere in the midst of its liquid production.  I felt early on (and still believe) that this flavor would leave tasters on both ends of the rating spectrum.  It is sharp, but I fall on the favorable end of that spectrum.  The tea and the grass-kissed water blends smoothly, and despite its sharp and unusually derived flavor, it feels like a black tea should.

To further examine the journey of this blend, the taste does not remain stagnant over the course of the cup, but slips into a warmer, smoother experience as it settles.  Just as the components of the initial package separated in the press, the flavors of the tea seem to separate as well, providing an evolving delight one might expect from a certain mad chocolatier.

I recommend this for the bold, or those seeking a pleasant departure from the well-trodden sea of black tea.
