kalahariorangeginger.jpgI travel a lot for work and let’s face it, although you may always want loose-leaf tea, bagged tea is the most travel friendly. Sometimes finding a tasty bagged tea can be a challenge, but that doesn’t stop me from trying. I have a few brands I turn to prior to hitting the road and I was hoping that Kalahari would be added to that list. ChocoLatte Green Tea Orange Ginger sounded delicious and I was anxious to try a cup.

The tea appeared to be very small particles within a self-proclaimed, eco-friendly bag made of unbleached Manila hemp and unbleached wood pulp. Although I was slightly disappointed by the lack of full or even partial leaves, the chocolate/ginger smell intrigued me enough to put my doubts aside. I prepared the tea in boiling water with a 3 minute steep. The liquid was a very cloudy yellowish-gold and I noticed a large amount of particles settling in my cup. Visually, this tea was not appealing. The smell was heavy with ginger and followed by a light chocolate scent.

As with so many other ginger flavored teas, the ginger was the focal point. The chocolate was noticeable, but the tea didn’t have a full, rich chocolate flavor. While drinking, I was reminded of the type of flavor associated with a chocolate mint. I wasn’t able to detect the orange in either the smell or taste. Overall, this tea was ok, but I wouldn’t classify it as a dessert tea. It didn’t have enough body or flavor to earn that title.
