greentealattealmondsIt's hard to find anything negative to say about an item which makes a happy marriage of two of my favorite comestibles...chocolate and tea. Tavalon's Green Tea Latte Almonds are matcha dusted chocolate covered almonds. The shiny chocolate is hidden slightly under a pretty bright green tea dust; these would make a snazzy filler for a coffee table bowl at a party.

Tastewise, I thought the tea flavor was more pronounced when these had been cooled awhile. I ate my first one warm and it tasted mostly like chocolate. Tough break, that. But actually, chilling them down a bit was a nice way to enjoy them as your first taste is of the subdued sweetness of matcha. Its vegetal sweetness is a lovely introduction to the stronger sweetness of the chocolate and the pleasant crunch of the hidden almond at the end makes for a tasty treat. I'd be delighted to see a dark chocolate version come out - but that's really only because I prefer dark to milk chocolate.

I don't know that anyone needs an excuse per se for eating chocolate (geesh, I can't think of that many excuses!), any more than drinking tea. But if you were looking for one to satisfy, I suppose you could reach into the latest basket of food guru recommendations and come up with both green tea and chocolate being full of anti oxidant something or others, and almonds of course are full of calcium. So these are really quite good for you.

But I would just say that they are quite tasty, if a bit on the spendy side, and would be pretty fun too as a gift for the tea and chocolate lover. That would be reason enough to add a little batch of these to your next Tavalon order, and won't the recipient be tickled with the clever melding of green tea and chocolate covered almonds! This particular treat is on the pricey side, at $23.00 per pound...but you can also get 3.5 ounces for $5.50.
