chocolattematchamint.jpgI'm a big fan of chocolate, though not so big a fan of chocolate-flavored things. Teas, especially, tend to rub me the wrong way when they try to be chocolate flavored. However, I'd heard fairly positive things about Kalahari's ChocoLatte line of teas, so I decided to give this one a try despite my probable bias against it. Despite that, I have to admit that I am fairly impressed with this tea.

For a tea bag, it's got a pretty strong scent. It smells like chocolate and mint, unsurprisingly, and within a minute or so of opening the pouch it came in, my entire kitchen smelled of it. It certainly wasn't a bad thing ;) The brewed tea smelled the same, though with a bit more emphasis on the mint than the chocolate, and perhaps a bit sweeter overall, and a touch of an organic scent, possibly from the green tea.

And the moment of truth: how does it taste? Not bad. The chocolate, as expected, isn't the greatest, but I've certainly tasted worse. It's probably the closest to tasting like real chocolate that I've tried in a long time, and it's actually not that far off. The mint certainly redeems the blend, though, adding a nice, crisp undertone to the chocolate that actually makes the blend quite pleasant. I think the biggest downfall of this tea, though, is a downfall that I find most dessert teas tend to face: no matter how indulgent the flavor, the texture of the tea is just too thin to make it really feel like dessert. Chocolate is thick and creamy, and tea just isn't. This is a problem that can be easily remedied by a touch of milk, though, and I found that this blend is pretty darn good with just that.

Bottom Line: Any fan of dessert teas can appreciate this one. Even if you're not a fan of chocolate flavored teas, this one is worth giving a try, as it's one of the better ones.
