redleaflicoricemintSo I added this to the Gimme list for reasons that had nothing to do with Herbal Infusions. Lately I've had a thing for Ancient Egypt. The stunning architecture, the remarkably complex art and its interplay with Iconography and Hieroglyphs, the elegant, and just a bit naughty, dress, what's not to like?

In ancient times Licorice was largely filled the place that modern over-the-counter meds fill these days. Licorice has a few proven medicinal qualities, and alot of conjectured ones that made it very much in demand. These days concoctions from Liquorice root are still popular in Egypt, though who knows the exact prep methods used in ancient times.

You can smell, and see, the mint and liquorice clearly, they are fragmented but have a clean pure look to them that shows some care in their preparation. When steeped about 3 min you cant taste anything but mint, this is largely because it takes a bit longer to draw flavour from roots and cloves than it does from leaf.

At five minutes and on into seven minutes the flavour changes a bit. Its still mint at its core, with everything else just being window decoration. Don't get me wrong, the cloves and Liquorice make the blend sweeter, and a bit more rounded at the edges, it adds a slight spice as well, but its still honestly flavoured mint. Which is a great thing if you like mint, and who doesn't like mint? Evil people.
