teagvataTeaGschwendner (pronounced TEA-gesh-VEND-ner) is a rather large tea company with roots in Germany. They sell more than 300 varieties of tea via the internet and in over 145 tea shops located in seven countries. Eleven of their teas were winners at the 2009 World Tea Championship! Their teas range in price from a few dollars to $150 per ounce.

The Vata herbal teasan is an intriguing looking mixture with a wonderful aroma somewhere between basil and fennel. The tea is actually made of licorice, coriander, cinnamon, ginger, anise, and mallow blossoms. When wet, the ingredients smell like Chinese herbal medicine. The liquor is a golden green color with a licorice scent.

The website suggests one level teaspoon and eight ounces of water with a steep time of five minutes. Through a bit of experimentation I found a heaping teaspoon and an addition minute to produce a better tasting drink.

While the taste is very pleasant, I have grown a bit tired of licorice teasans. If this is your first experience, you will likely love it. It tastes better and more flavorful as it cools. It also develops more body.

Drinking this tea is a comforting experience and it tastes like it is good for you. I felt that it helped me to sleep better. For that reason alone, it is worth having on hand; especially if you have a Vata dosha.
