tavalontealixirTavalon’s history is compelling. In 2005, Co-Founder and CEO John-Paul Lee was chugging coffee in London while he noticed that almost everyone else was sipping tea. As a citizen of the United States, he quickly connected our fast-paced, hectic lifestyle with coffee and coffee chains. This experience was the seed that grew into Tavalon. Together with Sonny Caberwal and Chris Cason and inspired by a shared passion for music, the three set about the goal to create fine teas that cater to the American palate and challenge the frenetic coffee culture that dominates the United States.

Tealixir has a rather unique scent - mint trying to mask turpentine and orange. I couldn’t wait to try it!

This teasan is made of ginger, orange peel, mint and eucalyptus and once it becomes wet, the orange fragrance predominates. The liquor, a golden-brown color, smells of ginger. I steeped one teaspoon of tea for five minutes in eight ounces of water.

The taste is remarkably mild compared to the aroma of the dry ingredients. It des not at all have a medicinal flavor. In fact, sadly, it is quite bland. Do not waste your time attempting to make a second cup from the first infusion. I tried kicking it up a notch by doubling the amount of tea. While more flavorful, it was almost too strong and although I’m not exactly sure what this means, the flavors seemed compressed.

On a very positive note, both of the times I tried this tea I felt a cold coming on. In neither case did it materialize. This might be a good replacement for or supplement to Echinacea and gold seal tea.
