chocolattematchamint.jpgKalahari’s Matcha Mint is a combination of sencha, matcha, peppermint, dark roasted cacao, and chocolate flavoring.  The tea appeared to be mostly powder and was presented in bag form.  Upon opening the package, the mint scent was very strong and mixed well with the chocolate.  The smell was reminiscent of an Andes mint and the scent was so pleasant, it made me wonder if the smell would match up with the taste of the steeped tea.

I prepared my cup using boiling water and a three-minute steep.  The scent of the brewed liquid was equally strong, although the chocolate lost a bit of potency.  Unfortunately, the taste didn’t quite live up to the smell.  The flavor of the tea was heavy with mint, but that’s about all I could taste.  I found it impossible to detect even a hint of sencha or matcha, and although the chocolate was present, it was far too weak to compete with the mint.  Overall, this tea reminded me more of an herbal blend due to the strength of the mint.  If you really enjoy peppermint tea, you might want to try this blend.  However, if you were looking for a strong and flavorful chocolate/mint combination, I would look elsewhere.
