zhiteapomengranate.jpgWhile I enjoyed it, I wasn't particularly impressed by Zhi Tea's White Blueberry, and I found their White Pear confusing, so I wasn't quite sure if I should be excited or pessimistic about this pomegranate blend. I'm a sucker for anything pomegranate flavoured, so I knew no matter what, this was definitely worth a try.

Not wanting to take my chances, I used two heaping teaspoons for seven ounces of water, steeping for 4 minutes at 195 degrees. The resulting tea was mostly amber and smelled berry-like. The flavour resembled the scent - sweet with a bit of bite, but not particularly pomegranate. A touch of bitterness poked through in the aftertaste, but it wasn't strong enough to be particularly disturbing. I didn't find the taste very exciting, and it was hard to draw much flavour out of the tea.

Perhaps the weakest part of this blend for me was the base tea. I am reasonably sure I just don't like Zhi Tea's Bai Mudan. Other people seem to love it, and I get the impression that I am a small minority in this opinion. I have found that all three of the Zhi flavoured white teas I have sampled were similar in that they had an underlying hint of chocolate flavour, so I can only assume it is the tea they use. While it is a fine enough flavour, something about it isn't for me.
