teafortecocotruffle"The world’s finest cacao beans create this rich, chocolate reward. This healthy infusion is nearly as gratifying as a velvety truffle." ---Tea Forte website.

Tea Forte is this tea company that makes these interesting little pyramid tea sachets with a little leaf on the top. They are very cute and sort of a novelty item. I am not certain that they really allow leaves to stretch out like true sachets do because the pyramid is rigid, but they are still a step up from a tea bag in my opinion. I requested this particular sample based solely upon the glowing review that it received from fellow Teaviews reviewer, Vanessa. Any chocolate type tea that gets a glowing review is one that I must try!! Tea Forte lists the ingredients in this as cacao, cinnamon, fennel, licorice root, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper. It appears that what we have here is a cacao chai blend. Admittedly, I am not a fan of a couple of those ingredients (fennel, licorice root, and black pepper specifically), but feel it is important to try to keep any open mind about ingredients because my tea preferences have changed a great deal in the past year and a half.

I infused the cute little pyramid into my cup of water that had been brought to a full boil and allowed to cool a bit for about 7 min. To my delight, this is actually quite good. However, it really doesn't taste like chai at all. While I can taste the fennel and licorice root in the background, the cacao and cinnamon take centerstage. The cacao and cinnamon combo remind of Mexican Hot Chocolate! They complement each other perfectly. This somehow comes together in a very satisfying way. The remaining ingredients were pretty much lost on my tongue. The addition of a little rock cane sugar made this very dessert-like. I did add a splash of milk to the cup towards the end and it was ok, but I would drink this sans any dairy.

Thus far, this is the best of the offerings that I have had the privilege of trying from Tea Forte. This is the tea version of Mexican Hot Chocolate! Further, if you are a tea snob and against the idea of using these tea pyramids, they also sell this in loose tea form. You should definitely add some of these to your shopping cart when placing an order from Tea Forte. YUM!
