maedakukichaI have only tried pure matchas thus far, not any matcha blends. I thought it would be fun to try a full tea and matcha combination as I could get all the benefits and experience of drinking the ground leaf while having an extremely different flavour. Kuki-cha seemed like as good a place to start as any.

The dry tea is a vibrant green, covered in a beautiful bright matcha. I tossed one heaping tablespoon of tea into 8 ounces of 190 degree water for one minute. The resulting steep is a cloudy electric green with a hearty, brothy scent.

This is a very hearty and thick tea, causing me to feel as though I am drinking a meal rather than a beverage. A bit of bitterness lies underneath the cup, but it isn't unpleasant, and even the sludge that settles at the bottom of the cup is surprisingly edible.

I attempted a second steep, and while good, the resulting brew isn't as satisfying. I probably won't bother with a second steep in the future, and if I do, I will give it to my husband since he hasn't tried the first steep, thus he doesn't know how much better it can be. This experience has opened the matcha door further for me, and I will be on the lookout to try more matchas blended with other leaves.
