californialemonmeringueOkay, CTH. This is getting ridiculous. Just when I think you have outdone yourselves, along comes another blend that stops me in my tracks. To all you dear readers on Teaviews, please allow me to apologize for my blatant love letters to California Tea House. I should probably state now that I don't work there, nor do any of my family members, friends, or acquaintances. Heck, I've never even corresponded with anybody there. I just get my hands on some humble samples of their products, and dang, if every one of them isn't incredible!

CTH's Lemon Meringue Pie blend is simply a rooibos tea with some lemongrass, lemon preserves and bits of vanilla bean added. The resultant aroma is knock-you-silly amazing, like a sweet lemon dream. This tea arrived in my mailbox alongside Drink the Leaf's Citrus Rooibos, and between the two of them, I swear to you, when I opened my mailbox, I was pelted in the face with sweet, mouthwatering aroma right there on the street. No joke.

I took it upon myself to somewhat-ignore CTH's recommendations on this. They recommend 1-2 heaping tablespoons of tea, full-boil water, and 5-7 minute infusion. Personally, I utilized 1 teaspoon per 8 ounces of 195-degree water, brewed for 5 minutes, and that yielded a perfect cup. A cup so delicious, my mouth is watering now, 12 withdrawal-inducing hours since my last cup. The flavor that comes through in the cup is so deliciously lemony, and so mysteriously creamy, that it has surpassed any and all other flavored "dessert" type teas in my past. This has now taken place as the gold standard to reach for any dessert tea. Ever since first ingesting this tea, it has become a nightly staple in my household - my wife and I each sipping a cup, big grins on our faces as the cup warms our hands and the tea tantalizes our taste buds. Rooibos? Definitely. Lemon Meringue Pie? Without a doubt. The flavors tease and maybe it's the power of suggestion in the name, but I can't think of a more perfect descriptor. CTH also recommends this served on ice with some mint leaves. That sounds incredible, but it'll have to wait for me to try that out, as I can't seem to shake off the perfection of this hot cup.

This is a premium "dessert tea" that needs nothing but some hot water and about 5 minutes of steep time. If you add sweetener to this tea, your taste buds must be broken. It needs nothing. It is wonderfully sweet, even for those with a sweet tooth, such as myself (but not overly so). I fell in love with rooibos from the first sip. Now, I'm afraid I could never go back, as Lemon Meringue Pie may have spoiled me for life.
