bostonautumnharvestI've been eyeing my sample of Autumn Harvest for some time now. The attractive contrast of the green of lemongrass with the red of the rooibos and the rosehips is a tribute to it's name. I can't help but be reminded of fragrant walks in the woods, shuffling through the leaves while the foliage is all a-flame. I'm pretty intrigued by the combination of ingredients too: Boston Tea Company describes this mix as a blend of rooibos, apples, cinnamon, lemongrass and rosehips.

The scent of apple pie wafts from the dried blend: we're off to a great start! My sample has a generous amount of lemongrass in it. The other flavouring ingredients are less obvious amongst the rooibos. I mix a heaping teaspoon of tea with 8 ounces of boiling water and wait 5 minutes. Once steeped, the smell of cinnamon dominates warmly. The tisane glows a deep burnt orange. The flavour is quite complex, at once earthy and astringent, soothing and stimulating. The sweetness of the apple and cinnamon tastes floats to the forefront but the lemongrass and rosehips give the tea a citrus finish. All the while, the rooibos subtly adds depth throughout. I suspect this would be fabulously thirst-quenching as an iced tea. I wish the apple flavour was a bit more obvious, to balance out the astringency of the lemongrass but the flavour is pretty satisfying overall.

This is a very refreshing blend of flavours, definitely worth a try for those who like their teas in the sweet-and-sour realm. I would definitely consider adding this to my repertoire of caffeine-free teas. The addition of lemongrass, apple and cinnamon to rooibos really livens things up, and makes it interesting enough cup to drink anytime of day. Kudos to the Boston Tea Company for coming up with such an innovative blend of flavours!
