mightyleafgingertwistGinger Twist is described by Mighty Leaf as "a harmonious mix of lemongrass, tropical fruits, and mint fueled with a touch of ginger and ginseng". This tea came packaged in a silken pouch that had pretty stitching around the edges. The paper packet wrapped around the pouch says that their pouches are for teas with flavor too big for ordinary tea bags. Based on that I had expected a larger pouch that gave the contents ample room during the infusion, but the pouch ended up being just about the same size as any other tea bag. The pouch was generously filled with lemongrass, mint, and unidentifiable little pieces of fruit, but even so, after the contents absorbed water during the steeping, the pouch was almost over-stuffed. The tea was a pale yellowish-brown color with a clean and natural lemon scent. The flavor of this tea was not what I had expected based upon the scent. The flavor was rather weak and fleeting. If I didn't concentrate immediately upon sipping this tea, the flavor was gone. I infused my tea pouch for five minutes, but perhaps a much longer infusion time is necessary to coax the flavors out of the pouch and into the teacup. When I did really concentrate, the lemongrass was the major ingredient that I detected. Sadly, the ginger was too muted for me to detect, save for a teensy little speck of flavor towards the rear of the sip. Odd as it may seem, even the mint was hard to detect. This is hard to describe, because the tea tastes like lemongrass balanced with something else, but none of the ingredients I know to be in the blend are matching that "something else" I am tasting, which is more along the lines of a pleasant medicinal flavor. Hmmm, if nothing else, this is a puzzling tea. While I didn't dislike this tea, I was disappointed that it didn't deliver on the ginger flavor. This tea would probably be more appropriately named "lemon twist".
