kteasautumnmorningKTeas describes its Autumn Morning as "A lighter 'chai' tea in the style of Western India." It is a blend of cinnamon, cardamom, clove, vanilla, green, and black teas.

I'm just discovering KTeas, but from what I've seen so far, they are very generous with their whole spices and other flavoring ingredients. Autumn Morning is no exception. My sample was heavily laced with good-sized chunks of the various dried spices, including whole cardamom pods and what looked like some sort of citrus peel, giving the tea a rich, sweet, classic chai aroma. The tea leaves were rather nondescript, very dark in color and somewhat broken. (After steeping, they opened up into large torn pieces, the black clearly distinguishable from the green.)

I steeped a rounded teaspoon of the dry tea in 8 oz. of 212F for five minutes, which yielded a light golden brown liquor with a nice balance of the spices in the aroma. I tasted it straight first. It reminded me of mulled cider without the sweetness, and it was quite astringent without being bitter. An addition of half and half and a scant teaspoon of organic sugar lessened the astringency, enhanced the richness of the spices, and really brought out the flavors of the teas.

Given the smoothness and natural sweetness of the tea, I decided to try a more concentrated infusion. Having never been a barista, I had to wing it, so I tried two teaspoonfuls of dry tea in 8oz. of 212F water for nearly ten minutes. The taste and smell were richer, and no still bitterness. Cream. Sugar. Very tasty. If you're looking for a chai as good as those served in Indian restaurants, this may just be it!
