yogicwhitemasalachaiYogic Chai is another new company to me and White Masala Chai is my first sample from them.  This is also the first white chai I’ve tried and I was interested to experience a chai without a black tea base.  Prior to requesting this particular tea, I spent some time looking over the Yogic Chai website.  The group seemed very knowledgeable about chai and I found it interesting that they carved out a niche focusing solely on producing 100% organic chai blends.  Needless to say, I was very excited to try this tea.

The dry leaf is very aromatic and contains a white tea (Bai Mu Dan) base with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.  I used two heaping teaspoons with eight ounces of boiling water and a four-minute steep.  This produced a very nice cup with a strong cinnamon scent.  The flavor of the tea was well balanced and no one ingredient took the spotlight.  The cup ended with a nice cinnamon finish.  I usually add milk and honey to chai, but this tea was tasty on its own.  Also, I wasn’t convinced that the blend would handle additions well.  I wouldn’t call this chai delicate, but it didn’t quite have the same hardy feeling as a chai with a black tea base.  This was a nice change of pace though, and a good cuppa.
