marypopinThe glass teapot sitting in my cupboard has a similar device to this Mary Pop-in, only it's frustratingly finicky. It's hard to clean, and if I finally break down and just pull the whole thingamajigger out to clean out the leaves, it's impossible to get back in. I didn't really realise upgrading that piece or irritation was an option until now, so of course I was excited to see that I may be able to get rid of that infernal, though attractive, device.

I tried this in several teapots and was disappointed to find it only fit well in a few. If the pot's spout is too small, it won't fit, and if too big, you run the risk of the device falling out. I normally stick with an infusing basket because of how convenient they are, but when steeping a tea that poofs out a lot, I really prefer putting the leaves directly in a teapot. While most of them obey, a few tiny ones always escape into my cup, creating the need for a device like this little ditty.

I decided to test it out with the ultimate nemesis to people who don't want crud floating in their hot beverage: Rooibos. Chances are I'll never actually try to use this for rooibos since it doesn't need expanding room, but it's a good gauge of how well it can work. A few particles slipped through, but they always do, even with mesh infusers. It did its job well enough and stayed in place effectively.

Bottom line is that, as with all tea devices, this has pros and cons, and it could be useful to have around. It's only $5, and at that price, you may as well pick one up.
