kteaslogoChina Oolong Kwai Flower has an interesting appearance with large evergreen colored leaves rolled into tubes and little bits of yellowish white that I am assuming is the Kwai flower petals. I have never heard of the Kwai flower before but according to K Teas’ website, it is a tiny flower prized by the Chinese for their rich nectar-like flavor reminiscent of peaches. I can easily understand that as the aroma rising off of my sample is mixture of peaches and an unidentified floral scent. Personally, I think this aroma would make a great perfume.

Due to the size of the leaves, the recommendation was for 3 teaspoons or 3 grams of tea per cup. Since I was making enough for 2 cups, I actually overdid it and used 7.5 grams. Yes I was in the mood for a more flavorful tea. I used boiling water and let it steep 3 minutes. The color of the liquor was clear with just a hint of a golden undertone.

The wonderful aroma of the dry leaves has practically disappeared. I was only able to catch just a wisp no matter how hard I searched. And the taste, well it was pretty much flavorless. The oolong is one that is far too mild for my tastes and I wasn’t able to find any hint of peaches. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad tea and some folks might find this mildness to their tastes. So while I wouldn’t turn down a cup if it was offered, this isn’t one that will find its way into my personal stash.
