grandgenmaichaI believe this is JP002M-50, it was Labeled Genmaicha+matcha and not Genmaicha Matcha-iri, but I'm still fairly certain its the same product. Its, as the name suggests, a matcha coated Gen Mai Cha blend, with firm little brown nuggets of puffed roasted rice, and fragmented, but reasonably whole leaves. The matcha floats on the air when you open the bag, and seems fairly copious, which seems a good omen. With enough matcha the green tea flavors are strong enough to moderate the flavors of the rice, which sometimes overwhelms the brew, but too much matcha and it can taste a bit like bad spinach.

I've always thought it might be interesting to make my own Gen Mai, something tells me it would finally let my understand why coffee fanatics spend small fortunes on kitchenware designed to do an assortment of laborious, time consuming, and possibly simply pedantic steps in the process of turning a raw coffee bean into something they can grind and drink. Truth be told, if I did make my own I'd want it to taste almost exactly like that which is used here, its rich and has a slight caramelized quality which goes well with the green tea and matchas bitterness. Its a very savory and grain rich brew that comes across strong. While I really, really, love dark roast Gen Mai in my Cha, I do genuinely love this blend, and will likely buy some in the not to distant future.
