necessiteas-lemon-raspberry.jpgThe Necessiteas describes their Lemon Raspberry Green Tea as a “light and refreshing blend of Sencha, raspberry and lemon flavor, accented with lemon peel, lemon grass and raspberries.” This description is pretty much spot-on. The tea certainly is light and refreshing, and for me, makes an ideal iced tea. The dried blend has whole dried raspberries in it, perhaps not quite as many as pictured on the Necessiteas website, but still it’s always impressive to see whole pieces of fruit in the blend. Pieces of lemon peel and lemongrass were also present. The blend has a sweet and strong aroma that, although not seemingly entirely natural, is still mighty delicious. I brewed my sample using warm (but not boiling) water and a three minute steep time. The flavor of this tea is almost entirely that of the fruits, and very, very little of the green tea. The raspberry and lemon blend together quite nicely, resulting in a clean yet sweet flavor with surprisingly little tartness. As I drank my sample, I realized that because the Sencha base is exceedingly mild, this tea this could actually pass as a flavored lemonade or a Crystal Light type beverage rather than a green tea blend. This blend is thus an ideal way to reap the benefits of green tea without the grassy and spinachy flavors that are, to some folks, a bit of a turnoff. On the flip side, if you really do enjoy the flavor of green tea, then this one may leave you feeling disappointed. I would recommend this as a delicious iced tea, and my recommendation is on the basis of the fruit flavors, not the green tea base.
