jinmorrocanmintMoroccan Mint is a traditional blend of green tea and fresh mint leaves. JING takes their own approach to this North African classic by utilizing gunpowder green tea (which is also the typical type of green tea used) and blending with whole peppermint leaves. The Moroccan tea culture traditionally brews the tea very differently than western tea brewing methods. They typically double-steep it for long periods of time - once with just leaves, and once with sugar. Then the mint is infused for a short period of time. Here, by blending the tea with the mint leaves, it's perhaps a more convenient preparation method, but also gives it its own spin on the drink.

I took JING's recommendations of adding 2 tsp of leaf and steeping for 3 minutes, utilizing somewhat cooler water. A greenish yellowish cup results, and the two flavors are balanced nicely - the green tea is ever-present and somewhat astringent (particularly if hotter steeping temps are used). Yet the mint comes to the forefront just as much, with a bold, naturally minty flavor presentation. The ingredients of this tea are also certified Organic and Fair Trade as well, which is nice reassurance, considering the health concerns of pesticides in common use with mint production.

This is a pleasant cup of tea - no real surprises when utilizing mint and green tea, but the freshness and natural ingredients are a welcoming and reassuring added bonus.
