tigerenglishpeppermintTiger Spring is a relatively-new tea company in the UK - and pride themselves on being the smallest in their native country. It's run by two tea lovers - a common theme with many quality upstart tea purveyors these days. The owners pride themselves in offering their products in-person at various farmer's markets, fairs and festival events in and around London.

As mint teas go, I am definitely a fan, but I would not consider myself the world's most discerning connoisseur. That said, this is a quality specimen of very potent and delicious mint. I'm unsure what distinguishes this mint from any other, or who exactly is rating mint products (mintyviews.com, anyone?), but Tiger Spring claims this one to be "probably the strongest mint in the UK," boasts of its origin from a single estate, and warns about sealing it in an airtight container "unless you prefer your whole house to smell of nothing but pure peppermint!"

Indeed, the aroma is rich and pungent, and produces a flavorful cup each time. The leaves are fresh and large. One can assume that there are no oils or additives in this tea, and that we are dealing with 100% pure mint leaf. I played with a variety of temperatures, from 185 to 205, and generally kept my infusions at the 5 minute mark. The minty flavor did, at first, seem a bit more sharp than most peppermint that I've remembered. After a half dozen cups or so, it's become my nightly ritual and is a warm and comforting nightcap, while having a cooling and calming effect - naturally refreshing as with all peppermint, and perfect for leaving a clean mouthfeel in the 30-60 minutes before brushing teeth and dozing off.
