necessiteaslogoThe Necessiteas has gained a reputation for having delicious and quite creative tea blends, especially when it comes to dessert options.  When I saw banana nut bread as a sample, I was extremely intrigued and had to request it.  I absolutely adore banana bread.  When a loaf is baking in the oven and the strong smell of banana and spices fills the kitchen, it’s like a little heaven on earth.

This particular tisane contains rooibos, banana flavors and chips, walnut flavors, and cinnamon.  The smell of the dry blend is distinctly banana and nothing else, but when I added water, that’s when the magic happened.  For my cup I used two teaspoons in boiling water with a six-minute steep.  The strong banana scent continued to come through but gave way just enough to let the nuttiness and cinnamon merge into the mix.  I honestly could imagine pulling the fresh baked bread right out of the oven.  I don’t know how it’s possible, but as the tisane steeped, I swear it smelled like dough.  With such a pleasant aroma, I had high expectations for my first sip.  Unfortunately the finished product didn’t live up to my expectations, but to be fair i don’t think any tea could have lived up to the hype I created.

The banana flavor was very strong and for a while that’s all I tasted.  Slowly, other familiar flavors began to come through, including a little nuttiness and a slight hint of cinnamon, then followed by still more banana.  Everything was there; it just never really blended correctly for me.  Although this drink was headed in the right direction, the flavors never really connected to create that perfect, eureka moment.  It ended up being a case of too much banana and not enough “bread”.
