kteaslogoWhen cherry tea starts popping up, you know spring is right around the corner.  I absolutely love cherry sencha and around this time each year I place a large order to keep me going for several months.  When the opportunity arose to sample KTeas Wild Cherry Black, I couldn’t wait to give it a try.  There’s just something about a nice cup of cherry tea to brighten the day.

Ingredients in this tea include black tea from India, sour cherry pieces, and natural flavors.  The dry leaves are very small and tightly twisted and they give off a candy-like scent that reminds me of cherry bubble gum.  For my cup I used one heaping teaspoon of leaf in boiling water with a two-minute steep.  The resulting liquor was a light copper with a very mild cherry scent.  The flavor of the tea followed suit as it was also very light, and a cherry flavor was ever present.

The cherry flavor, however, was rather odd.  I could recognize the flavor as cherry, but it was more in line with artificial flavoring rather than the actual fruit.  It unfortunately didn’t have the taste of wild, tart cherries or the sweet summer cherries from the market that I have found in other cherry options.  Although this tea contains sour cherry pieces, the tea wasn’t really sour or sweet; it was just kind of flat.  Overall, I wish this tea had a bit more kick with a more pronounced and natural flavor, either sour or sweet.
