Thumbs up!"While it's not the most flamboyantly flavoured rooibos blends, the satisfying combination of almond, vanilla and apple flavours is quite effective in delivering a sweet treat."

kteaslogoA very sweet smelling mixture reminiscent of candied apples and marzipan, this blend has definitely been created with desert tea drinkers in mind. Bits of apple and almond mingle amongst the rooibos (or rooibush as KTeas would have it). They are all more or less uniformly coloured, as though the red of the rooibos has rubbed off on all the ingredients of the mix. As KTeas doesn't provide specific brewing instructions, I experimented with a few different parameters. I found that this blend needs a fairly long steeping time in order to unleash its flavours. What seemed to work best was to infuse a generous teaspoon of leaves in 8 ounces of boiling water and let steep 6 minutes. The brick red cup smells primarily of vanilla and almonds, with a touch of astringency coming from the apples. The aroma of the cup seems perfectly mirrored in its taste. As in the scent, the almond and vanilla dominate but they are joined by a very natural-seeming apple taste tingling on the tongue, along with a hint of cinnamon. This tisane has a pleasantly creamy feel and a good amount of natural sweetness to it. However one can encourage the decadence of this blend by adding a little extra sweetener. To do so seems to enhance the presence of a gentle burnt caramel flavour and paradoxically encourage the tartness in the apple pieces to emerge. Although a second 8 minute infusion revealed a thinner bodied tea, the mix of flavours was almost intact. It's less luscious than the first cup but definitely still enjoyable.

This is a very reasonably priced, well crafted desert tea. While it's not the most flamboyantly flavoured rooibos blend I've tasted, the satisfying combination of almond, vanilla and apple flavours is quite effective in delivering a sweet treat.
