Thumbs up!"Although this tea was very similar to my first orange spice, this particular version seemed to lean more toward the citrus elements and less toward the spice, just as the smell had suggested. "

kteaslogoMy first experience with tea came from a loose-leaf variety of Orange Spice.  I remember making trips to a small local co-op on Sundays with my parents to pick it out.  As a child, I found the co-op a fascinating place to visit.  There were always so many new things to look at and the place had so many wonderful smells.  The trip inside was like a sensory overload.  First we would pick out some dried fruit (always papaya and pineapple), then we would head over to the grains, finally, we would make our way to the loose-leaf tea section that was housed with the bulk spices, each in large clear glass containers.  With bag in hand, we would purchase a few scoopfuls and be on our way.  The real treat was getting home later that day and making a pot.  The entire house would fill with the scent of spice, and the flavor was robust and memorable.

At first glance, the KTeas version appeared very similar.  The leaves were small, black, and twisted, mixed with large pieces of orange peel and smaller pieces of cinnamon.  Additional ingredients included ginger pieces, vanilla pieces, and natural flavor.  However, the scent was clearly different, heavy with the smell of orange, and a little lighter on the spicy side.

One level teaspoon in boiling water with a three-minute steep produced a very dark, sweet smelling cup.  After the first sip, the fond memories came spilling in once again.  Although this tea was very similar to my first orange spice, this particular version seemed to lean more toward the citrus elements and less toward the spice, just as the smell had suggested.  I remember Orange Spice as having more of a kick and leaving a lingering tingle in your mouth.  Though this offering is lighter in flavor, I still enjoyed this cup.  This is a very nice option from KTeas, especially if you’re a fan of orange.
