kteaslogoWhile I'm not particularly sensitive to caffeine, I prefer not to have any after a certain time of night, and sometimes I want real tea rather than an herbal. This means it's not time to finally try out some decaf teas. This Ceylon Orange Pekoe has been decaffeinated via the carbon dioxide method. That gives the tea a negligible, though not nonexistent, level of caffeine.

I drop the medium black leaves into 212 degree water for three minutes. There are more stems than I would prefer, but the cup still manages to have quite a bit of flavour. Each sip has notes of honey, fruit, and vanilla.

Overall, the main problem I have with this tea is that it is rather flat. Since I have limited experience with decaf teas, I can't be quite sure if this is due to the decaffeinating process or if it is a general fault of the tea itself. The flavours are fine, but the cup has no real character or spirit. I hoped for a more full-bodied and robust leaf.

It's an all right cup but nothing spectacular. I guess it comes down to whether avoiding caffeine is worth sacrificing somewhat on flavour.
