serendiptearedozSerendipiTea's Red Oz is one of those deceptively simple blends one (such as myself) thinks he can do himself but never does. I swear - at one time or another - I've had either rooibos or lemon myrtle in my possession, but I never think to blend the two. I've blended both with other things, even with each other in addition to several other botanicals. But never "just" themselves. It's never been a party for two. These guys beat me to the punch.

The red rooibos pieces for this offering were of a smaller cut and the myrtle flakes looked like they were supposed to - like yerba mate but prettier. The smell throws the potential drinker for a loop. Reason being, the combination of nut-sweet rooibos and super-citrus lemon myrtle creates a peculiar blended scent that resembles honeybush. I wish I was kidding. Rooibos with a citrusy herb creates a fragrance like its cousin.

Brewing called for a five-minute steep in 212F water, 1 tsp per cup. I did that but steeped for six. These were hearty enough herbs.

After the robust steep time, the liquid colored to a deep cherry wood palette. The aroma no longer resembled honeybush like the dry form did. Instead, it smelled exactly like what one would expect from a pairing of myrtle and red bush; nut-sweet citrus. Herbaceous, almondy characteristics coupled with fruit-filled tartness. It's impossible not to like it. I wish I had more to add, but brevity is the soul of the beverage for this update. Give it a shot.
