Even though I live in Miami, it does get pretty cold here sometimes. And on a night when we were approaching freezing temps, I decided to reach into my stash of tea samples for a caffeine-free tea. The selection ended up being Stash's Christmas Eve herbal tea. The ingredients in this tea are cinnamon, orange peel, spearmint, and natural flavors of vanilla, orange, cinnamon, and clove. I am not sure why natural flavors were used in place of or in addition to the real ingredients, but I won't belabor the point. I have to admit that I did a double-take when I saw the combination of spearmint, orange and cinnamon. I wasn't really too sure how that would turn out, but proceeded with preparing the tea. I used boiling water and a four-minute infusion. The contents of the tea bag were clearly very small specks and dust, but that is pretty much what I expect from most bagged tea. The flavor of this tea was warming and soothing. I was amazed at how smoothly the orange, cinnamon, and spearmint blended together. The flavor was not too pungent, but nor was it too mild. The spearmint flavor was probably the strongest ingredient, but it was a nice, clean spearmint rather than an overwhelmingly potent one. As the tea's name suggests, this is fantastic for seasonal night-time sipping. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious caffeine-free holiday brew.
