Mint and green tea are two ingredients that go hand in hand.  This particular combination is a mixture of pouchong and peppermint leaves, a pairing that I had never experienced.  I have always associated pouchong as a type of oolong, although Canton Tea Co. notes that residents of Taiwan refer to it as a green.  Either way, it lends a new twist on a classic mint tea.  As a side note, I very much appreciate the information available on the Canton Tea Co. website.  They provide not only brewing recommendations, but also a little history of each tea, tasting notes, and harvest information.  Having such information adds to the overall drinking experience.

The dry blend is a beautiful, emerald mixture of long and twisted pouchong leaves and small flecks of peppermint.  The scent was very strong with mint, and it had undertones of the sweet fruitiness of an oolong tea.  While reading though the quick brew instructions, I was surprised to see the recommended amount per cup: two tablespoons.  Although the amount seemed a bit high to me, I happily followed their instructions.  Two and a half minutes later, the liquor was a rich amber hue, darker than I had anticipated, and the scent was strong with mint.  I was excited to give this tea a try.

The flavor was just as strong as the smell.  The mint was the more pronounced ingredient, but the pouchong held its ground and added a wonderful floral and fruity oolong aspect.  It was the oolong flavor that really elevated this tea to the next level.  I have had numerous green tea and mint combinations and for the most part they were tasty, but nothing special.  This tea however, was just different enough to make it a very interesting and delicious blend.  If you are a fan of mint tea, I highly recommend giving this one a try.
