White August Tea was initially a brick and mortar store in Phoenix, Arizona. Started by Tarmara Graham, a professional Civil Engineer, and her husband Matt, the store grew in popularity and they opened a second store in Sedona, Arizona. As the business grew, they launched their online store in 2009.

For being such a young tea company, I am super impressed with the quality of tea I have sampled from White August Tea. It's no surprise Tamara and Matt have experienced great success with their tea business.

Today, after months and months and months of literally no sunshine, we finally have a cold, but scattered sunshine day! I've had a sample of White August Tea's Plum Proud, just waiting for the sun so I could have fun making myself some iced tea. It may be a cool day, but the window is open and I'm enjoying the best cup of black iced tea I've ever had!

Yes, it's true. I have some favorite white and green teas that I love to have iced during the summer, but I hadn't yet found "my" perfect black iced tea... until today. And that's a funny thing, because I am a big time black tea connoisseur.

When I received my sample of Plum Proud, I knew that the website said it was especially designed to be an iced tea. Now what makes it special for iced rather than hot, I don't know. But I was determined to drink this as an iced tea.

Unfortunately they don't have any instructions on brewing this for an iced tea. Fortunately, I guessed and it came out perfect! I used the full sample packet, which was a perfect teaspoon scoopful. I brought my fresh water just to boil and steeped it for 6.5 min in only 6 oz of water. Then, I filled a cup with ice and poured the strong tea over the ice. Perfection!

The tea is dark reddish color and has a wonderful fruity/berry smell as it's steeping. Over ice, the fruit is the perfect background to the black tea. I don't know what type of tea they used in this, but it is not bitter and has a very fresh flavor. There is a bit of an herbal quality next to the berry flavor. I just love it!

Though I drink my hot black tea with milk and sugar, I almost never add sugar to iced tea. This tea did not need to be sweetened at all! I enjoyed the whole cup black. I think that sugar could very well be added, and it might even bring out the fruity flavors a bit.

The way I brewed the tea, I had a gorgeous clear dark coppery cup of iced tea. And I know I'm going to want a lot more of this tea when the sun decides to really shine and warm us up a bit!
