Its OK"It is decently enjoyable, but nothing that I would go out of my way to actually purchase on my own. I am not sure I would recommend it, but it was a decent sweet tea sip if you aren't expecting to actually taste the chocolate, vanilla, or mint."

artoftea-velvet-tea.jpgI found this sample hidden amongst my teas, forgotten somewhere under teas that I had somehow never gotten around to trying. Since I had a free morning, I figured why not start off with trying a new tea. I recently had read about this tea, and the mix of mint, chocolate and vanilla sounded great to me. I had really high expectations for it.

The smell of the tea wasn't strong. I couldn't identify the individual vanilla, chocolate or mint smells, but it was pleasant over all. The tea looked nothing like the picture on the website. The ingredients are: Organic Fair Trade Rooibos, Organic Mint, Organic Apple, Organic Cacao Nibs, Chocolate, Natural Flavors. The rooibos was very fine and there were no discernible apple or cacao nibs in it. The mint was sadly scarce... I still kept up my hopes, just in case somehow all of this brewed would be better than it looked.

I brewed it in just boiling water for 7 minutes. The resulting liquid was golden brown, with a reddish tinge to it. The smell of the brew was very similar to the dry tea. I couldn't make out any mint, which was really disappointing. The taste itself was rather enjoyable. I sweetened it with Splenda. I was actually surprised that I liked it as much as I did. It tasted like a smooth dessert tea, but not anything like I was expecting. The mint aftertaste was barely there. No actual vanilla or chocolate notes, it just tasted rooibosy, sweet, and creamy.

Overall, it wasn't a great tea. Considering I was expecting something great, it definitely was a disappointment. It is decently enjoyable, but nothing that I would go out of my way to actually purchase on my own. I am not sure I would recommend it, but it was a decent sweet tea sip if you aren't expecting to actually taste the chocolate, vanilla, or mint.
