After finally getting around to sampling White August's Rogue Wave, I am really disappointed in myself for letting it sit in my sample basket for so long. This tea is delicious! White August describes this tea as "Bold Japanese sencha tea, creatively entwined with toasted coconut and ginger to create a one of a kind experience". While I can't say I agree 100% with this statement, I enjoyed this tea 100%. While White August describes the green tea base as bold Japanese sencha, I actually found the tea base to be very mild, relatively speaking. What I mean by this is that when I think of Japanese sencha, words like vegetal, spinachy, and springy come to mind, but none of those typical flavors were very evident in this particular blend. The coconut flavor is what makes this tea a winner. Since an ingredients list is not provided, I can't say for sure that this tea does not contain artificial flavorings, but I do know that the coconut flavor is very authentic and that little specks of coconut are readily visible in the blend. The coconut flavor captured here is on par with two other coconut-themed teas, both from Zhi Tea, which I rave about to anyone who will listen to me. As for the ginger, I actually found it to be only a minor player in this blend, but perhaps that's only because I was so enamoured with the coconut. I enjoyed this tea equally both hot and iced, which is surprising to me since I don't often like green tea as an iced drink. This tea is definitely something I plan to purchase for myself. Anyone looking for a refreshing and wonderfully flavored green tea should give this a try. It might be particularly ideal for someone trying to get into green tea but who is not quite ready for a full-on, unflavored, vegetal green tea.
