White August Tea Company always impresses me with their teas. They are high quality, well packaged and they offer very flavorful blends.

Emerald Ice is no exception! It's a wonderful blend of green tea, ginger, jasmine and tropical fruit flavors. It is created especially as an iced tea and the White August Tea Company even offers special cold brewing tips!

I didn't follow the cold brewing tips for this one, because I wanted to compare the flavor hot and cold. So I used my normal method of making iced green or white tea. I put 4 heaping spoonfuls of tea in a 4 cup measuring cup. I bring the water to the right temperature based on whether it is green tea or white tea. Then, I steep it for the suggested time. I strain it and heat more water and fill the measuring cup again and add one minute to the steep time. I do this a third time adding another minute. Then, I let the pitcher cool and store it in the fridge.

The first cup of hot tea I tasted was good. It was a bit astringent, but had a nice blend of fruit and jasmine. I didn't taste the ginger at all.

On the website, White August Tea says that if you use their cold brew method, you will get less tannins and a much smoother tea. If I had another sample package, I'd try it again with their cold brew method and see if it changed the taste.

When the tea was cold, I had a large cup. I was fantastic! I was amazed at how the flavors had blended together. It was also much less astringent when cold.

This is an amazing tea, with many layers of flavor. There isn't one flavor that dominates. Rather, they ebb and flow, mixing in the mouth and enhancing each other. The Jasmine gives this tea such a smooth creamy taste, with the fruits tasting tropical and a bit citrus, but very undefined. The ginger is very mild, and doesn't even leave a bite on the tongue.

I enjoyed the whole pitcher of Emerald Ice! I love drinking a good flavored green or white tea all day long in the summer and this one is perfect for that. I probably would not choose this as a hot tea. The flavors just didn't work until it was cold. But it's intended as an iced tea... so that's perfect!
