Net sachets are like a compromise between loose leaf fans and teabag makers. The leaves are still whole - for the most part - and the discerning drinker can see the contents of bag. Fannings, these were not. Boston Tea Co.’s Lovely Lemon had a green, sencha-like tea base that was readily apparent. Funny thing, though. As with most blends, I expected the green tea to be Chinese sencha - long light-to-medium-green leaves with a rough appearance.

The base here looked more like Mao Feng; I couldn't tell what it smelled like past the "sweet-n-LOUD" lemonade scent. For a flavored tea, this packed an aromatic punch. Emphasis on the punch, for that's what it smelled like - lemon punch. Bits of lemon were even visible within the mesh.

Being on the go while I was trying this, I had to settle with an economic brewing prep. I used a 12oz. cup filled with hot water, let it cool for a couple of minutes, then steeped the sachet for three.

The liquor brewed to the appearance of (big surprise) lemonade, or at least what a combination of green tea and lemonade would look like. (Sidenote: I've done that.) The aroma echoed the dry batch, if a bit understated, which was expected for a flavored tea. As for flavor, it held up rather well with a grassy green tea forefront - no getting around that - and the lemony bulk in the topnote. The aftertaste ended with a vegetal lean. The strength of the tea base still made me think Mao Feng was used. This was a surprisingly decent lemon wedge of a beverage. Of course, Boston Tea CO. - to me, anyway - seems to have a love affair with lemons. If this is any indicator...I say, "Carry on."
