Coconut Lavendar Red Tea is described on the Tea District website as an excellent alternative to a high-calorie chocolate bar. Since this tea's ingredients don't necessarily remind me of candy bar ingredients, or even dessert in general, I wasn't quite sure about this claim, but after drinking the tea, I do agree that this tea is sweet enough to satisfy a craving for sweets. The dry blend is, by volume, primarily rooibos, however, there is a very large presence of lavendar petals, and a less generous amount of shredded coconut. According to the Tea District website, natural flavor is also added, in addition to the rooibos, lavendar, and coconut ingredients.
I prepared this tea in boiling water with a lengthy infusion time of seven minutes. As expected, the brewed tea is a rich amber red color. I wasn't quite sure what to expect of the tea, since I have to admit that while I do love lavendar, I tend to prefer it in potpourri, soaps, and body lotion instead of in food or drinks. I was concerned that the lavendar would impart an overly medicinal flavor to the tea. However, that was not the case, as between the shredded coconut and the natural flavor, the tea had enough sweetness to balance out the lavendar. This blend really surprised and delighted my taste buds. The coconut flavor is the big winner here, offering a rich, sweeet, and nutty flavor that is perfectly suited for the nutty rooibos base. But the tea earns big points for uniqueness of flavor thanks to the complimentary accents of the lavendar. The lavendar was present but not overwhelming and certainly not medicinal. The overall effect is a sweet yet refreshing blend that does work very well as a dessert tea. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an out-of-the-ordinary blend that tends towards the sweet side.
