Knowing nothing about Malaysia I googled the name to decode it, and learned that Gunung is a Malaysian term for mountain, and Chantik means Pretty, so this is literally translated as Pretty Mountain, or Mountain Pretty. I'm assuming this is because there is a Mountain named Chantik, at any rate this is a single estate (I believe) black tea grown on BOH's tea estates in Malaysia, and derived from the fannings of their Orange Pekoe product, and if all that is Greek to you then go ahead and google the tea grading system. I'll wait.

The fine fragments are very dark in color, and have that dusky leathery aroma to them that I happen to relish. Maybe its western orientalist speaking, but black teas are evocative of adventure, travel, and the tropics in a way that Green tea (which is actually drunk in the Asian tropics) just isn't for me. That is not to say I don't love green tea, its just in a different frame of mind than the way I enjoy a good black tea. Once brewed it comes up a good caramel color, with a muscatel aroma, and a rich tannin flavor, with just the slightest hints of blackberry, or jam in the background. Gunung Chantik takes well to milk and lemon, if such is your taste, or drunk strait. This is a very solid daily drinker, perfect for the sort that like a nice strong cuppa to brace them for the day.
