At first sight of BOH's Gunung Chantik,  I could tell we were going to get along.  It had the appearance of my favorite standby tea: a fine, dark, dust.  Plus but it also contained tiny, golden pieces.  I  just looked like a recipe for  lots of robust, astringent, cuppas.  So I boiled some water and deepened our acquaintance.

Like all my favorites, Gunung Chantik (GC)was easy to brew.  It stands up to boiling water and can sit around in it until I finish the pot.  I used a teaspoon per 8 ounces of water.  I started drinking after about 4 minutes, and I finished the pot after about 20 minutes.

Each cup was tart and stimulating.  As it brewed longer, it developed a slight menthol  characteristic.  This  wasn't strong enough to be pure mint, but it hinted at an emerging dryness that left a refreshing aftertaste.

For a hot tea, GC was milder than I like, but it gets extra points for withstanding an extended brew without turning bitter.  Plus it was great over ice.  I rate it a 7.5.
