Tea District is a Minnesota-based online retailer that carries a wide variety of teas, both loose leaf and bagged. Their products are relatively inexpensive – this one is $7 for 2 oz. They don’t specify which estate this organic Keemun comes from, suggesting that it may be a blend.

The dry leaves are dark brown, and include both full leaves and broken pieces, as well as some stems. Tea District recommends brewing at 195° F, which is on the lower end of average for black teas. After a 4-minute brew, the cup gave off a smoky, woody aroma with a hint of grapes. The flavor was smooth with no bitterness, slightly oily-tasting, with notes of grapes and cinnamon. A second brew at 5 minutes was too bland – this tea doesn’t hold up well to multiple brewing.

Keemuns can range in flavor from simple and smooth, like this one, to complex, bold, and even spicy. I’m personally fond of the bolder ones, as they can reveal some pretty amazing flavors (citrus, chocolate, or molasses, to name a few). This is not what I would call a great Keemun, but it’s certainly very drinkable, and reasonably priced, considering that it’s organic.
