This chai was an eye opener appearance wise and I immediately dubbed it the super-chunk of chai blends. There are big 1/2 inch chips of ginger, inch long twists of black tea, pepper pods both green and black along with cardamom pods, orange chips and long pieces of cinnamon stick. The smell is solidly masala-esque with a light clove scent lingering though I can't see any cloves with my eyes.

I used a generous teaspoon per eight ounces of water brought to a boil. I allowed the blend to simmer for three minutes and then added almond milk and allowed the mixture to come back to a simmer for about 30 seconds. I sweetened this tea lightly with liquid stevia.

The citrus scent is evident while the tea warms on the stove and the blend is both spicy and warming in the nose. In terms of flavor, this tea is very surprisingly mild. With sweetener added, it was very sweet indeed and I actually found this to be one chai that I preferred with no sweetener of any kind added. The absence of clove taste is notable (and for my tastes, preferable). There are plenty of peppercorns but the tea is not overtly peppery. Ginger flavors are mild as well, which surprised me. The ginger and cinnamon elements of this blend are more evident as conductors of warmth and a mild robustness. Underlaying the tea is a little bite at the rear of the sip that gives evidence of its presence.

This chai is very mild and pretty un-spicy which is a drawback for my tastes as I appreciate a robust and spicy chai. There are hints of bite and warming spice in this, but it would be best appreciated by someone who is leery of spicy chai blends. Lovers of the opposite will best look elsewhere.
