Thumbs up!"Superlative top-grade production with an abundance of tips. The Castleton would serve as an excellent first flush for someone who appreciates a more subdued experience. "

This Darjeeling is harvested from the Castleton Tea Estate in the Kurseong South Valley. The tea is grown in an altitude of 2300 meters. This is a well-known estate that is 70% British-owned and although not organic, has a good reputation as it uses Orthodox hand production methods rather than machine-intensive production.

SFTGFOP 1 = Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe First Grade - Superlative top-grade production with an abundance of tips.

Dry leaves: pleasant variegated mix of light green, olive and browns; aroma is fresh and grassy with lemon/lime floral.

I brewed 1 tsp. leaves at 194 degrees F for four minutes. The tea tasted like a good, fresh first flush, buttery smooth with hints of floral and grape.

Although I was excited to taste this tea and enjoyed drinking it over a number of tastings, I wasn’t able to summon much excitement about this tea. Perhaps this tea is too subtle for me, but I suspect my lack of enthusiasm came from these tastings following a raucous and thrilling experience with Jungpana 2012 1st flush (you can read my review of this tea elsewhere on Teaviews), which from my perspective would be a hard act to follow. The Castleton would serve as an excellent first flush for someone who appreciates a more subdued experience.
