I have already tried Red Leaf Tea's pomegranate matcha, but they recently changed the recipe, hence the fact that it looks like I've now reviewed the same tea twice. I'm excited to see if I prefer the "new and improved" version. The tea is a dull green colour with a bright candy-like scent. It's a bit clumpy but dissolves eventually, and when it does, it froths up nicely, the bubbles sticking around long after they evaporate in less cooperative or staler matchas.

It tastes bright and fruity. Unfortunately, it's has a bit of a medicinal quality, but that is somewhat counteracted by the vegetal matcha. I'd say the added flavour is too strong to be balanced, but I guess the upside of that is that this tea is distinctly fruity. In fact, with the candy-sweet smell and strong fruit flavour, I'd say this is a bit like drinking a cup of liquid Jolly Rancher, albeit somewhat healthier than that would be. Though it gives me a similar urge to brush my teeth.

Red Leaf Tea's website really pushes the health claims of both matcha and pomegranate, none of which I particularly care about. However, if you feel the need to "keep your PSA levels stable," and if you believe this will do it, then it's not a bad way to go.

Compared to the old version, I couldn't say I like this one more. It's certainly different, fruitier and sweeter than the old recipe. I wouldn't say I like it less, but I don't like it more, and I wouldn't go out of my way to get this again.
